Personal Information and Therapy Style
Marcia came to Marriage and Family Therapy after being a full-time, at-home parent for 10 years. She found deep satisfaction in walking beside her boys in their joys and sorrows, their hurts and disappointments, their identity formation and personal development.
In therapy, she loves walking beside people in their growth and healing, and in getting unstuck from ways of thinking and relating that no longer work for them. In an atmosphere of safety and support, she helps clients access their deepest aspirations for themselves and their relationships, and put those into practice.
Marcia is experienced in dealing with a variety of issues, including: relationships, grief and loss, life transitions, anxiety and depression, identity and self-esteem, trauma, and parenting. She particularly enjoys working with couples and individual adults. She brings the lens of family systems, attachment, and emotion to all of her work. She utilizes Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy and Emotion Focused Therapy for individuals. She enjoys doing premarital counseling, using the Prepare Enrich assessment. She also draws upon Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness. She enjoys working with clients from a variety of backgrounds and worldviews.
Marcia earned her Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University. She is a member of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy. She and her husband have two adopted sons who are now young adults. She has 30-plus years of experience in teaching and ministry with children, youth and families.
