Personal Information and Therapy Style: Karen has been in clinical practice since 1991, and with Lutheran Counseling Network since 1997. She received her Masters and Ph.D. in Marital and Family Therapy from the Graduate School of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary, and also holds a Masters in Christian Leadership from that school. She is a clinical member of the American Association of Marital and Family Therapy (AAMFT) as well as the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS).
Her approach to therapy varies according to the needs of each client, and may include methods from family systems theory, family-of-origin-based/developmental approaches, as well as solution-focused and cognitive-behavioral methods. Karen views the therapeutic process as a journey, and considers it a privilege to participate with her clients as a partner on that journey.
Areas of Expertise: Karen works primarily with individual adults and couples, but also works with children, adolescents and families. She is comfortable working with a wide range of issues, including relationship concerns, anxiety/stress issues, depression, work conflicts, trauma experiences (recent or childhood), grief and loss, and spiritual struggles.
