Personal Information and Therapy Style: Paul completed his undergraduate work at Pacific Lutheran University in 1971 and a Master in Counseling degree from Seattle University in 1981. He has been practicing as a therapist since 1979 and with Lutheran Counseling Network for two periods in his professional life, 1981 to 1993, and from 2003 to the present. From 1993 to 2003, Paul was a case manager for a behavioral health managed care company with the majority of this period engaged in health care management at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, including management of the Psychiatry Department.
His clinical experience and training have been shaped by a variety of theoretical orientations including Transactional Analysis, family systems, cognitive-behavioral, guided imagery, solution-focused therapy, group therapy and pastoral counseling. Pauls approach is one of working collaboratively to identify what in each persons life he or she is seeking to better understand and change; to identify their inherent giftedness and strengths; and to work practically to accomplish the goals they have identified.
Areas of Expertise: Paul works with individual adults, pre-adolescents and adolescents; couples; and families in the following areas: depression, anxiety, issues of intimacy, discord in relationships, issues related to divorce & blended families, approaches to parenting, child and adolescent behavior and school problems, adolescent issues of emancipation, profound change and transition as a result of loss and adjustment to job stress or that brought about by chronic and deteriorating medical conditions, and issues related to male identity and development. He also runs a weekly men's group.
Educational Offerings: Paul is also available for providing a variety of educational programs for congregations and community groups. Feel free to contact him about the needs and interests of your particular group. |
