Personal Information and Therapy Style Paul completed his undergraduate work at Pacific Lutheran University in 1971 and a Master in Counseling degree from Seattle University in 1981. He has been practicing as a therapist since 1979 and with Lutheran Counseling Network for two periods in his professional life, 1981 to 1993, and from 2003 to the present. From 1993 to 2003, Paul was in health care management, as a case manager for a behavioral health managed care company with the majority of this period engaged in health care management at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, including management of the Psychiatry Department.
His clinical experience and training have been shaped by a variety of theoretical orientations including family systems, emotion-focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, guided imagery, solution-focused therapy, pastoral counseling and transactional analysis. Paul’s approach is one of working collaboratively to identify what in each person’s life he or she is seeking to better understand and change; to identify their inherent giftedness and strengths; and to work practically to accomplish the goals they have identified.
